Floor Finishes For four years, EHS has been providing contractors and homeowners with green building materials--this week we focus on floor finishes.

We recommend three different options: Vermont Natural Coatings, Osmo, and Safecoat Polyureseal. VNC Vermont Natural Coatings’ PolyWhey™ wood finishes preserve it with a durable shield that is environmentally safe for those who work with it and for those who live with it. Our products are the result of recent scientific innovations using whey proteins, a natural by-product of the dairy industry. Osmo PolyX Oil is ideal for solid wood flooring, cork flooring, composites, oriented strand board and any unfinished wood surface. Osmo Polyx®-Oils are hardwearing and extremely durable. The surface is water-repellent, dirt-resistant and resistant to wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juices, milk and water, according to DIN 68861-1A (German Industry Standard). AFM Safecoat has exceptional durability and abrasion resistance, coupled with high solids, very low odor, and very low VOC, make it the clear alternative to conventional solvent and water-based polyurethanes.
