PaperStone™, from PanelTech International, is a
dense, hard, water-resistant, solid-surface
composite material used for skateboard ramps,
countertops, toilet partitions, and exterior
rainscreen siding. It is made from cellulose fiber
(paper) and a non-petroleum phenolic resin
derived in part from a natural phenolic oil in the
shells of cashews. KlipTech offers two
versions of the product: standard PaperStone
contains at least 50% post-consumer recycled
paper; the newer PaperStone Certified has
100% post-consumer recycled paper. The latter
product is third-party certified by SmartWood to
carry the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
recycled-content label. Overall, the product is
60% paper fiber by weight and 40% resin.
PaperStone Certified is made with 100% FSC-certified, post-consumer recycled paper. The proprietary water-based resin system uses
non-petroleum phenols, including cashew nut shell liquid derivatives. The finished product works easily with a triple-chip, carbide-tipped saw blade
and carbide-tipped router bits. It has no detectable free formaldehyde, is Class A fire-rated, heat-resistant to 350 degrees, and stain-resistant.
PaperStone comes in 30" and 60" widths, lengths of 4', 6', 8', & 12', with thicknesses ranging from 3/4" to 1 1/4". The product is available in thirteen
colors. The PaperStone original product line is made with 50% post-consumer recycled content, versus 100% for PaperStone Certified.
