EcoTop is a new countertop, manufactured from recycled paper, bamboo and wood fiber. Light colors, smooth, solid surface and easy maintenance.
Joel Klipper, founder KlipTech Composites, Inc. is a former Richlite employee. He founded KlipTech in 2001 and PaperStone to the market.
In 2007 Joel left KlipTech and founded, Klip BioTechnologies, LLC. which is now bringing you EcoTop. With master chemists (and team) he
formulated a resin (material binding the product together) that is eco-friendly, strong/binding, and light in actual color (PaperStone is
limited to dark colors due to a reliance on a dark resin.)
The Environmental Home Store has partnered with Joel since his days with PaperStone. We were even lucky enough to be invited to meet with
Joel and his crew as they started the first round of test pressings at the Scranton manufacturing facility earlier this year. Yes, Scranton,
PA! EcoTop will be locally manufactured in PA for East Coast distribution. Because it is manufactured within 500 miles, EcoTop will have
greater LEED points!
EcoTop is made from 50% recycled wood & paper, and 50% bamboo fiber. The longer bamboo fibers make it highly scratch- and stain-resistant
with water absorption of less than one percent as well as durable with a compressive strength of 50,000 psi. The only tree fibers in the product
are recycled fibers (vs. virgin fiber used in some other products) that comes from demolition sites.
The resin that binds the wood, paper, and bamboo is 100% water base, and VOC and petroleum free. EcoTop is a solid surface that could compete with Corian.
The product has the strength of a Phenolic (used in PaperStone and Richlite), with the color fastness and consistence of Formica, a decorative laminate.
Any scratches can be simply sanded out with a ScothBrite pad or sand paper on a random orbit sander. EcoTop is easy to repair with standard tools and can
be used anywhere from the kitchen to the garage. EcoTop is UV stable, and therefore will not fade, or change like other PaperStone and Richlite (Many
appreciate this naturally beautiful quality in both PaperStone and Richlite, but we know change is not for everyone).
EcoTop has already been ranked Sustainable Industries as one of the Top 10 green building products of 2008!
The Environmental Home Store carries all 3 generations of paper countertop. We are happy to have been among the very first to bring this wonderful product
to the Philadelphia Region.
