Richlite® is made primarily of paper purchased from managed forests throughout North America. The paper is treated with resin then pressed and baked
to create solid sheets. Richlite® is different in a natural and better kind of way. The same material has been used for decades by the aerospace industry
for tooling, the marine industry for fiberglass reinforcement and the action sports industry for outdoor skate ramp surfaces. It's beautiful, unquestionably
durable and will last for years.
Many of the woodworking tools, such as saws, routers, sanding, etc., can be used to fabricate Richlite Countertops. However, Richlite requires you to
use a certified Richlite Installer. The Environmental Home Store is happy to assist you with this.
Richlite's color palette parallels popular design trends with seven tones that complement a variety of cabinet, flooring, appliance, hardware and related
design product style. The seven colors in the FCS line are: Chocolate Glacier, Browns Point, Yellow Island, Blue Canyon, Green Mountain, Redstone, and Black
Diamond. The OCC line is made from 100% recycled cardboard and is a tan/brown color similar to cardboard.
The material comes in multiple sizes to match a variety of design needs. Richlite sheets come in a variety sizes to suit any design style in the kitchen,
bathroom or office. The material is available in three quarter inch to one and a half inch thick sheets up to five feet wide and twelve feet long. In addition,
thinner backsplash material is available. All colors are not available in all sizes and not all color/size combinations are in stock. Special orders are available.
Since Richlite is made out of paper will it darken over time -- the composition of Richlite Surface is cellulose fiber and resin, much like Mother Nature's
trees {but with extra resin in our product to make it more durable}. And similar to certain characteristics of wood, Richlite material does noticeably
darken with age due to ultra-violet exposure and oxidation, much like Fir or Cherry cabinet material. It is this enriching color transformation that has many
architects praising the look of the color. The darker the ase color, the less it will change with time. Of course, color evolutions can be restrained by employing
ultra violet shields upon incoming natural light.
Edge Treatments -- Richlite Certified Fabricators can shape extravagant edges and route artistic features like drain channels directly in the material. Hodges
Custom Designs has several standard edge treatments, custom edge treatments are available on request
Built-up Edges -- You get what you pay for. Faux edges hide the true thickness of many stone and solid surface products. Richlite is designed to look beautiful
without a built up edge. It's more economical and looks better to install a thick sheet of Richlite with a nice routed edge than to seam it with a faux edge.
Richlite Corp. does not recommend fabricating built up edges with the material.
Seams -- A Richlite certified fabricator can produce clean seams. They're not invisible but much cleaner than what can achieved through stone countertops.
Richlite comes in up to 12-foot lengths and five-foot widths so most projects can be accomplished without a seam due to the size of the sheet.
Extended Cantilevers and Long Spans -- Due to the long, tough fibers inside Richlite, the material will not bend or break under normal circumstances. As a
result architects and designers love the stuff because they can design long spans and extended cantilevers without adding extra support. As a rule of thumb"
-thick material is structurally stable with a 12" overhang, 1"-thick material is stable up to an 18" overhang, and 1 ? "-thick is stable up to 24".
