VENTEAK

Teak (Tectona grandis) is unquestionably considered to be the noblest of all woods, not only because of its golden hues and wonderful texture, but also because of its longevity, stability and formidable resistance to weather. Proof of its “nobility” is provided by archeologists, who discovered intact Teak beams in ancient Hindu temples dating back over 1,00 years.

It was only in the early 1900´s that Teak crossed all frontiers and began setting foot in the Americas. The same favorable growing conditions found in Asian soils were available in Trinidad, and served as an ideal setting in which to develop plantations on this side of the world.

At VENTEAK we grow Teak in harmony with the environment and transform this beautiful wood into durable and distinctive flooring, decking and moldings. The characteristic golden Teak boards are selected and matched for color and pattern in order to fully maximize the uniqueness of this species.

Teak exhibits a wide range of colors when freshly cut, from pale Teak yellows to orange browns with darker striping, all of which mellows into medium brown tones.

It undergoes an extreme degree of color change over time from the highly variegated coloring found in material freshly sanded to a darkened golden brown with substantial muting of the initial color range.

Teak is suitable for flooring, decking and stair treads.

Environmental Considerations
We embrace the following key principles:

Ecological balance
We maintain the habitats of all native plants and animal species. We do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

No clear cutting Trees within the forest should be of various ages. Openings created by cutting are not to be larger than necessary to meet the biological requirements of the non-harvested trees.

Soil conservation
Conventional forest management techniques, such as clear-cutting, destroy soil organisms that are necessary for forest health. The heavy machinery characteristic of industrial logging often causes soil compaction, erosion and extensive damage to residual vegetation. Our cutting is conducted with light, small equipment; road building is minimized. No cutting occurs on steep erosion-prone slopes.

Sustained yield
The amount of timber removed from a given area must not exceed the amount that will grow in the cutting interval or rotation.

Social responsibility
We are dedicated to the preservation of not only the forests, but also the people. We employ local workers, subsequently contributing to their economy. We improve the living conditions in the local areas and aid in social amenities such as schools and churches.
